Coffs Harbour gears up for the Australian Kneeboard titles this weekend, Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd July 2012. Current Australian Champions and internationally recognised competitors are looking for the coveted Australian Title.
Australian Champion Kyle Bryant (Narrabeen) and Coffs Harbour kneeboarder Matt Gallagher (currently ranked 3rd in Australia), will be challenged by athletes such as Alberto Colucci and Armando Colucci from Venezuela.
World number 2 Cheyne Simpson (Huskisson, NSW) is defending his 2011 result of 2nd place against some of Irelands finest Kneeboarders who are also making the journey. President of Kneeboard Surf Australia, John Clingan, speaks highly of the Coffs Harbour region, which has hosted the event for 8 successful years.
"The area has a fantastic selection of world class beaches and contest venues. We return each year to Coffs as we have such great support from the local council and business community, each year we see new entrants from all over".
"Local business's have consistently given us support over the years and now the collaboration with Surfing NSW has really given the kneeboard community recognition and strengthened our organisation", said Clingan
Surfing NSW and Kneeboard Surf Australia have been working together to strengthen the sport and continue the growth, which is evident in this years entries, as a micro-grom division has been added which allows parents to assist in the water.
At the very young age of 5 years old, Ashton Cooper from Newcastle will be learning new skills with his fellow micro-groms under the age of 8. There is just three of them, but they will be having a ball and walk away with a video of their day at the Australian Kneeboard Titles.
Open to men and women from under 16 years to over 55 divisions, organisers encourage new participants to have a go and be a part of the great social event that is the Australian Kneeboard Titles.
Contenders will be welcomed by the Hoey Moey each night for great deals on meals and entertainment. The event is proudly supported by the Hoey Moey, VB, Coffs Harbour City Council, Coffs Harbour Tourism and Surfing NSW.
Event schedule is subject to change at all times, please call the Event Hotline 0458 247 212 after 7:00am each day of event for confirmed daily running schedule and contest venue.
