DELIGHTFUL RAIN TO SCREEN ON ABC TV
Wednesday, 29 November 2006

Tune into ABC TV on 2 December at 10.05pm to get an inside look into the Freshwater sessions and the recording of Delightful Rain.

Filmed and recorded over two weeks in May 2006 at the Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club right on the beach on Sydney’s north shore and looking out over the water where in 1915 Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku
introduced surfing to Australia, this was a unique project.

Delightful Rain gathered together some of Australia’s finest surf musicians to record material old and new and to tell their story and to celebrate the journey of Australian surf music.

Produced by New York based Australian, Kerryn Tolhurst, the Freshwater sessions included The Atlantics, Richard Clapton, Tamam Shud, The Celibate Rifles, Les Green from The Denvermen, The Angry Tradesmen featuring Dom Turner and the Oils’ Rob Hirst and Martin Rotsey, Pete Howe, Tim Gaze, GANGgajang, The Pigram Brothers, Andrew Kidman, Beau Young and Cruel Sea founder, Dan Rumour and the Dan Rumour Band.

Released nationally in November 2006 Delightful Rain is a unique recording and film project dedicated to celebrating the rich history of Australian surf music.

Piper Films also documented the recording process for a special 50-minute bonus DVD that comes with the limited edition collector’s edition of Delightful Rain. The bonus DVD features artist’s interviews and comprehensive footage of these special recording sessions. This DVD footage will be aired on ABC TV 2 December.

With summer on our doorstep Delightful Rain is the undeniably perfect musical accompaniment to our collective love of all things ocean.
