BRAZILIAN SURFER SETS GUINNESS WORLD RECORD
Saturday, 18 November 2006

Brazilian surfer, Rico de Souza, managed to ride a wave on a giant surfboard, setting a Guinness World Record.

Rico de Souza surfed for 11 seconds on the extra-long 8.5-meter (28-foot) board at Macumba Beach in Rio de Janeiro as part of the 2006 Petrobras Longboard Classic.

To set the new record, he had to stay atop the board for at least 10 seconds, organizers said.

De Souza already entered the Guinness record book last year, when he had 50 surfers catch the same wave, with 42 succeeding in staying upright for five seconds.
