Lorne-based surfing memorabilia collector Murray Walding recalls how music and surfing has coloured Lorne's beach culture.

On Murray Walding's first visit to Lorne in the 1960s, he found a cracking surf, beautiful girls and mistook a sound-check at the Wild Colonial Club for thumping waves.

"There were shops along the beach, there was a nightclub on the beach, there were groovy restaurants and bars and there were girls - so you're 16 and found a place with all that and good surf, it's just the kind of place you think, well I want to be hear more often," he says.
