ASP ABANDONS LONGBOARDER INSURANCE
Wednesday, 3 March 2010

ASP International has announced a reversal of its requirement for competitors to purchase insurance cover to be eligible for Australian events. Unfortunately the change of heart probably comes too late for some overseas competitors, but the Global Surf Industries Noosa Festival will keep its men's and women's pro draw open for late starters.

ASP's Dane Jordan reports: "ASP have decided to allow longboarders to compete without having to take out insurance. The insurance will still be compulsory for all Pro Junior and WQS members.

The reasoning behind this decision is that the premiums for longboarders had risen dramatically compared to the other divisions in 2010 and with the LQS/WLT only having a few events world-wide, it was expecting too much from them. All international surfers should now be able to enter via the online system, however if you experience difficulties, please contact ASP Australasia and we will make sure entries are processed under this new policy."

Noosa Festival director Phil Jarratt said that some amateur divisions were still open for late entries. Check competitor info at www.noosafestivalofsurfing.com
