Kieran Taylor. PIC: Surfing Qld.

Sunday, 22 November 2009
Kieran Taylor (Angourie, NSW), 37, toppled a star-studded field today, to win the 2009 Roar Industries Ultimate SUP Challenge. With some of Australia's finest exponents of the specialty Stand-Up-Paddle sport converging on the contestable 0.5m waves at Southport Spit (Gold Coast), an action packed day of surfing and racing unfolded.
Overall Results (aggregate score) 1. Kieran Taylor (Angourie, NSW) 2425 Points 2. James Watson (Burleigh, QLD) 2330 Points 3. Jamie Willems (Moffat Beach, QLD) 1935 Points 4. Troy Pease (Burleigh, QLD) 1900 Points
Open to both Men and Women, the multidisciplinary Roar Industries Ultimate SUP Challenge began with an SUP surfing competition, which Kieran Taylor (Angourie, NSW) claimed ahead of James Watson (Burleigh Heads), Jamie Willems (Moffat Beach, QLD) and Paul Jackson (Palm Beach, QLD).
Taylor then solidified his performance after registering a convincing ninth place in the SUP racing component, which was eventually won by Burleigh's Troy Pease after the full field of competitors negotiated a gruelling paddle course through the Gold Coast Broadwater. Despite the men dominating proceedings throughout the majority of the day, Shakira Westdrop (Palm Beach) flew the flag for the girls with the gutsy competitor taking it to her male counterparts by reaching the semi-finals in the surfing competition and disposing of several big name blokes along the way.
For his hard work winning the 2009 Roar Industries Ultimate SUP Challenge, Kieran Taylor collected a prize package from Kahuna Street SUP including: 1 x 48" Rasta Kahuna Street SUP and 1 x 5'6" Regular Big Stick.
